Gus Poyet won the Outstanding Managerial Achievement Award at last night's Football League Awards ceremony.
The Uruguayan was up against Dougie Freedman of Crystal Palace and
former Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark for the award, after taking
Albion from a side in the lower reaches of League One to a Championship
outfit in pursuit of back-to-back promotions in his first managerial
position.
The award was voted for by the Football Manager community via the
computer game's website as well as its Facebook and Twitter pages.
Having taken over in late 2009, Poyet built upon a successful first
season by inspiring the Seagulls to the 2010/11 npower League One title
in what was Poyet's first full season in charge.
This season has seen the Seagulls continue their upward progression.
Whilst currently sitting in the play-off places they also completed a
North East 'double' by beating Premier League teams Sunderland - in the
early stages of the Carling Cup - and Newcastle United in the FA Cup.
Elsewhere, Albion defender Lewis Dunk was shortlisted for the npower
Football League Young Player of the Year Award and the club's matchday
programme Seagull was nominated for the Football League
Programme of the Year Award; both missed out to Wilfried Zaha of Crystal
Palace and Burnley's Claret and You respectively.
